February 2020

From Our Regional Vice President

The spring semester is in full swing and we here at SSC are keeping very busy attending to the needs of campus.  We take great pride in serving the University and are grateful to be part of this amazing campus community.  Self-help author Robert Collier once said, “Success is the sum of small efforts, repeated day-in and day-out.”  With a specific goal in mind, any task can be accomplished with steady, diligent work and effort.

Wishing you all a productive semester!

Fundraiser for Frankie Castillo

As many of you know, SSC Plumber Frankie Castillo was in a car accident on Monday, January 27, 2020.

He is in critical condition and has a brain and spinal injury.  It looks like Frankie and Rachael have a long road ahead of them.

There will be costly medical expenses, hotel stays, travel expenses, living costs, and their monthly bills, that they will still need to take care of. If you find it in your heart please help this sweet family and give them a little love and support along the way.

Cash donations can be left with Danny Lemley in the Trades Shop.

A GoFundMe page is set up at https://www.facebook.com/donate/619593732209947/10221705679379363/

MAINTENANCE AND GROUNDS DEPARTMENTS SETTING NEW RECORDS FOR ACCIDENT FREE DAYS

In the month of January 2020 the Maintenance department and Grounds department at SSC Texas A&M University celebrated record number of days without injuries with a great lunch from a local taco truck. The Maintenance department is currently at 253 days without an injury and the Grounds completed 161 days without an injury. This is a record for each department. Each Grounds and Maintenance employee was given (4) delicious tacos and drink of their choice. Great job working safe. Always remember to Stop and Think before Acting.

2 Year Contract Extension for Texas A&M

It is with much excitement and gratitude to our SSC staff to announce that TAMU has extended our contracts for an additional 2 years! This is one of the largest facilities outsourcing contracts in higher education and  is a great model of cooperation  between SSC and TAMU.  This extension is the result of the your hard work and dedication.  The contracts are now in effect until August 3, 2024.  All of you should take great pride in knowing that our working relationship with TAMU through the Facilities and Dining Administration department has made great strides over the last 6 years, in the day to day operations of TAMU.  The increase in productivity and efficiency has made a noticeable change in campus operations and we will continue to work each day to make this great campus a better place to work and learn! I would like to thank TAMU administration for having the confidence in allowing us to continue to do what we do for another two years!

Exemplary Action by Facilities Management Employee

Many times our SSC associates go the extra mile to assist the students and staff on the Texas A&M campus. It is just what we do because we care. Every now and again there is someone that takes the extra step to show their appreciation for what was done because they realize it took a special effort from a great person.

SSC management received the email below thanking Pablo Quiroz of SSC Maintenance Zone B for taking the time to make sure this young nursing student was safe and cared for. Great Job Pablo!

To Whom it may concern,

I am a student at TAMHSC College of Nursing. This morning I had car trouble and was pulled over near the HSC parkway when one of your employees, Pablo, stopped to see if I needed help. He assisted me by changing my tire, and when it was clear there was more damage done to my vehicle, he helped me bring my car safely to the parking lot across the HSC campus where I could call for a tow. He spent at least 30 minutes of his morning assisting me. The help he gave me today went so far above-and-beyond what the average person would do in that circumstance, and he did it with a smile. I hope that this message reaches management in your department, because I think they should know what an excellent person and Aggie their employee is!

Thanks and Gig 'em!
